CHAPTER 12

Constantine turned on the arm of the chair, his movements swift and precise as Cassara slumped over, blood seeping into the fabric of her shirt. It spread rapidly, darkening the material as if she had been shot. Panic surged through me as I watched, my heart pounding in my chest.

Constantine grabbed her, his face a mask of urgent concern. “What is happening to her? It’s like her wound reopened.”

I darted to her side, my hands trembling as I tried to assess the situation. The sight of the blood, the sheer volume of it, sent a chill down my spine. “I don’t understand,” I said, my voice shaking.

Rene rushed over, his eyes widening as he saw the blood soaking through Cassara’s shirt. He gently pushed Constantine aside, his focus intense as he examined the wound. “We need to get her lying down,” he said, his tone calm but commanding.

Con scooped her into his arms and walked swiftly back to Cassara’s suite and laid her carefully on the bed, her breathing shallow and labored. Rene worked quickly, applying pressure to the wound, trying to stem the flow of blood. My mind raced, filled with a whirlwind of fear and confusion. How had this happened? We had just treated her, and now it seemed like everything was unraveling.

Constantine’s eyes never left Cassara, his expression a mix of helplessness and determination. “We need to do something,” he said, his voice raw with emotion. “She can’t lose this much blood.”

I nodded, my own fear mirrored in his eyes. “Rene, what do we do?”

Rene’s hands moved with practiced efficiency, but I could see the strain in his eyes. “We need to find the source of the bleeding and stop it. My blood should have healed her, but I don’t have an endless supply. Something else is going on.”

As Rene continued to work, I felt a wave of despair wash over me. Cassara had always been so strong, so resilient. Seeing her like this, vulnerable and bleeding, was almost too much to bear. I reached out, taking her hand in mine, willing her to hold on.

“Stay with us, Cass,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “We need you.”

The room was filled with a heavy silence, punctuated only by the sound of Cassara’s labored breathing and the rustle of Rene’s movements. I could feel the weight of our collective fear, the uncertainty pressing down on us like a suffocating blanket.

“We’ll get through this,” Rene said, his voice firm and resolute. “Cassara is strong. She’ll pull through.”

I held onto his words, clinging to the hope that we could find a way to save her. The bond we shared, the love and loyalty that bound us together, was our greatest strength. And in this moment of crisis, it was all we had.

I held Cassara’s limp hand in mine, feeling a surge of desperation rise within me. My power responded to my fear, cascading over her body in a rush of energy. Both Rene and Constantine pulled back slightly, their eyes wide with surprise and concern.
